New Shoes Claim To Prevent Falls On Ice

Canadian scientists have developed a shoe with a rubber sole that contains microscopic glass fibers that act as tiny spikes gripping the ground as you walk. The claim is that the glass will grip the ice and prevent those nasty slip and falls that are too frequent in the winter time. For now, the researchers have been testing the new shoes in a lab with volunteers. If this works, it would be a lifesaver for many. Each winter, you constantly have to worry about the melt and refreeze situation. Many people still take the bus to work, have to walk around the corner to their car or even walk to work. Imagine not having to worry if you slip on black ice. Imagine the elderly wearing these and not having to worry about falling and breaking a hip.

Who knows. Maybe these shoes will be on the market for next winter!
